It seems like the term wireless has become an obsession in the modern world. We have wireless everything, from video game controllers to wireless mice and keyboards. We use wireless headsets and start our cars with wireless remotes. We even have wireless within our wireless with access to wireless Internet through our wireless cell phones. It is the developing of 3g wireless technology that helps to make phones wireless and completely mobile. We are constantly using the many advantages of cell phones as a part of everyday life without even realizing what 3g technology is or how it affects our phones. 3g wireless technology is actually the third generation of cell phone networks. It was actually derived from World War II technology that the Americans developed for their radio transmissions to keep enemy soldiers from being able to listen in. The way they did this was by using multiple frequencies for one channel which made it much harder for anyone to pick up on the frequency that a call was being made on. When people would try to pick up on a single frequency, most of what they heard was just static. This technology also works for cell phones to prevent call blockers and makes the speed that data can transfer much faster. The faster data transfer that 3g wireless provides is the reason that we can do so many things on cell phones without even batting an eye at it. Perhaps the most common thing we expect to be able to do with our cell phones other than make calls is download new ringtones. It used to be that downloading a ringtone had to either be done through a computer or it would take a long time to download onto a phone. Now with the improved 3g wireless network it only takes seconds. At the same time we can browse the Internet, talk on our phone, and download ringtones all at once. Computers can also benefit from 3g wireless technology because 3g frequencies can provide Internet service for computers where there isn’t another wireless connection. In most cases people will need to directly connect their cell phone to the computer through some type of USB drive, but there are also some wireless routers that use the 3g technology. They aren’t as fast as a cable Internet connection but they have proven to exceptionally fast for cell phone connections. Overall the 3g wireless that most cell phones currently use is beneficial to us in ways that we might never fully understand, but at least we don’t need to understand it to enjoy it.
